Paul LeRocq — Official Biography
Roots and Early Life
Paul LeRocq, born Pablo Sciepura on March 11, 1978, grew up in Quilmes, Argentina — a city best known as the proud home of the legendary Quilmes Rock Festival. It was the kind of place where music was always in the air, and for Pablo, it was impossible not to breathe it in.
Finding His Way Into Music
His first real contact with music came through playing guitar in a high school band, picking up the instrument left handed and largely teaching himself through sheer repetition and dedication. Formal lessons came and went occasionally, but most of what he learned on guitar, and later on piano, came from sitting with the instrument for hours until it started making sense. That stubborn, self driven approach to learning would go on to define how he built his entire career.
The Voice, the Languages, the Range
At 24, Paul began taking singing lessons with Carlos Zabala, training with him for three years before continuing his vocal development under Liliana Sfara, with whom he still works to this day. Rather than limiting himself to Spanish and English, he pushed further and began incorporating Italian and German into his repertoire, not as a novelty, but as a genuine effort to connect with wider audiences and bring more range to his performances.
Writing Songs and Getting Into the Studio
Around the same time he started his vocal training, Paul began writing his own songs in both English and Spanish. Over the years that catalogue grew to over 100 original compositions. In 2007 to 2008, he stepped into the studio to record his first album, working alongside Osi Tejerina, CEO of Digital Poley Records.
On Stage in Buenos Aires
His live experience in Buenos Aires came in two distinct formats. The first was an acoustic guitar duo alongside Javier Onetto, a well regarded guitarist from Banfield, playing intimate sets that put the songs front and centre. The second was a singing ensemble put together by his teacher Liliana Sfara, performing unplugged versions of beloved classics by artists like Bon Jovi, U2, Enanitos Verdes, Sergio Denis, Laura Pausini and Gloria Estefan. Over the years, Paul performed across a string of Buenos Aires bars and venues, including Mitos Argentinos, Down Town MatÃas, Speed King, Montserrat, Barocho and John John.
Taking His Music to the World
Paul always felt his English language material deserved a wider audience. So he started reaching out to contacts in the US, Europe and Australia, pushing his music into new territories. In 2008, his track “Rock to the Top” (English version) was selected for inclusion in an indie new bands compilation put together by Will Ferraro out of Tempe, Arizona. That same year, interest came in from several directions: Shane Doherty at Turmic Records in Sweden, Jay Cai at Countdown Entertainment in Calgary, and Mark Gillette at Badness Records in London all responded positively to the material. He also secured a digital distribution agreement with Osi Tejerina for his debut release, running from 2011 through to 2017.
By 2016, Paul had launched an independent worldwide radio campaign that eventually landed him airplay across more than 20,000 stations on five continents. In 2017, “Rock to the Top” climbed into the Top 30 on Treffers Radio in South Africa and reached the Top 10 on Emisiones San José FM in Zaragoza, Spain, hitting the top positions on both stations on more than one occasion. Two years later, in 2019, the song earned him Choice Awards nominations in South Africa for Best Newcomer and Best Rock Song.
In 2018, Paul was offered the opportunity to host “Carrera de Solfeos” on local Radio JAR, adding DJ and presenter to his growing list of roles.
A New Chapter in London
After spending time in Madrid in 2015 and Los Angeles in 2017 to explore what life abroad could look like, Paul made the decision to plant roots in London in November 2021. The city felt right, and the plan he set in motion there was nothing short of relentless: expanding his radio reach globally, writing musicals and screenplays, attending castings to break into the film industry, rehearsing for live shows and simultaneously working to build meaningful relationships with record labels and music management companies across the industry. Alongside music, acting and scriptwriting have become equally important parts of his creative life in London.
